Vulval Dermatology

Dr Drummond has a special interest in vulval disorders and prioritises referrals for these conditions.

She is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Vulvovaginal Society (ANZVS).

Vulval dermatology refers to disorders of the female genital skin

Conditions assessed and treated include disorders which cause itching, pain, or rash of the vulval skin including:

  • Eczema/dermatitis
  • Psoriasis
  • Chronic candidiasis
  • Lichen sclerosus
  • Lichen planus
  • Genital ulcers
  • Hidradenitis suppurativa

Lesions (“lumps and bumps”) and pigmentation of the vulval skin are also common reasons for referral.

Dr Drummond also assesses and coordinates management of vulval pain (vulvodynia, vestibulitis, dysaesthesia). These conditions often need multidisciplinary management.

If required, further referral may be made to physiotherapists, psychologists, gynaecologists or your general practitioner.

Dr Drummond sees women with vulval problems at her private practice in Canberra and Moruya.

She also conducts a public outpatient vulval dermatology clinic at the Canberra Sexual Health Centre. If you would like to be seen at this clinic, please contact the Sexual Health Centre directly to make appointment, by phone on 02 5124 2184.

Please note that if Dr Drummond sees a patient with a vulval skin problem in the hospital outpatient clinic, that patient is legally a patient of the hospital, not Dr Drummond.

Dr Drummond does not keep the medical records of patients seen at the Canberra Sexual Health Centre at her private practice and cannot answer queries or provide prescriptions or pathology request forms.

You will be seen by dermatology registrars at the Canberra Sexual Health Centre, who are supervised by Dr Drummond. Patients who have chosen to be cared for through The Canberra Hospital Outpatient clinics, must contact the Hospital regarding any concerns, advice or prescriptions following your appointment.
